Jewish Religious School Will Meet at the Village Lower School for a Second Year

Temple Torat Yisrael’s Frederic G and Lawrence G Cohen Religious School will meet at The Village Lower School in East Greenwich for the second year, offering programs from pre-K through seventh grade.
Meeting in East Greenwich is an important step in Temple Torat Yisrael’s plan to relocate the congregation from its current Cranston facility to a new building that is being built off Middle Road in East Greenwich.
Ronni Guttin, Torat Yisrael’s Education Director, said that in the first year at the Lower Middle School, school registration more than doubled.
“We look forward to continuing growth, with more families in the area discovering the  strengths of our school,” Guttin said. “We provide individualized attention for every student, a knowledgeable and nurturing faculty, and a strong, family-centric educational philosophy.”
Songs, Hebrew reading practice, ethical discussions and laughter are some of the sounds that greet the ear on Tuesday afternoons and Sunday mornings. Teachers introduce students to new ideas, practice Hebrew reading and prepare for the demonstration of new skills in the synagogue setting. Students and teachers have a special bond as they explore the Jewish holiday cycle, celebrate life cycle events together and participate in community service projects together.
“Conservative Judaism, our congregation’s affiliation, is the perfect balance of a modern, forward-looking approach to a rich, inspiring and ancient religious tradition,” said Rabbi Amy Levin.  “Our congregation welcomes any family--interfaith, single parent, partners with children—who seek to provide their children with a Jewish education in a supportive and encouraging congregational context.”
Sunday, May 16  is the last day of classes for the current school year. Interested families are welcome  to visit classes from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., meet Rabbi Levin, Ronni Guttin and congregational representatives, joining our families at 11 a.m. as we mark the end of the school year with a brief ceremony and celebration.
