This week we talked about miracles and about how we can apply the story of hanukkah to our lives today. In this holiday story, our enemies weren't trying to kill us, they were trying to assimilate us.
In addition to some awesome conversations and discussion, we sang a lot! We sang Maoz Tzur, Rock of Ages and we sang Mi Yimalel, Who Can Retell!
As we learned and practiced new songs, we also spoke about going to a nursing home or hospital to sing and light candles on one of the nights of hanukkah. I will need support from parents to make this happen. Let me know if you are interested!!!
We have also begun to discuss the holocaust and anti-semetism today. Did you know that we just passed the 75th anniversary of kristallnacht?
This week I will be assigning a reading from Night by Elie Wiesel. Every student needs to have his or her own copy. Libraries usually have plenty of copies, it can be purchased at Barnes and Nobles or another bookstore, or you can let me know that you need some help acquiring a copy.
