Rabbi Amy Levin Appointed to Influential Committee of the Conservative Movement

Torat Yisrael can shep nachas ("brim with pride") over the appointment of our Rabbi to the Committee on Jewish Law and Standards of the Conservative Movement. Rabbi Levin shares the distinction of being one of only 25 rabbis to serve on the committee which responds to questions of Jewish law and halakhic interpretation.

Trip to Newport
Jonathan Finkle writes:
"On Sunday, October 23, a large group from Temple Torat Yisrael attended a guided tour of the Touro Synagogue in Newport, RI. The tour, which was arranged by the Programming Committee, covered the early history of Jewish People in the Americas (including the first settlers in Newport), along with the history of the building itself. The tour guide also discussed how Roger Williams endorsed religious freedom in Rhode Island, and the famous letter from George Washington to the Touro congregation. After the tour concluded, the group spent some time at the new Visitor's Center next door, which had wonderful interactive displays." |
