Torat Yisrael will reopen for in person services beginning on Friday July 10, 2020 at 6:15PM.  As a prelude to opening the building for services, we held an outdoor Friday night Shabbat service on June 26, 2020 on the lawn in front of the Mitzvah Garden. That outdoor service was very serene and peaceful for welcoming in Shabbat.   As a result, we will continue to hold outdoor Friday night Shabbat services at 6:15PM for the rest of the summer starting on July 10, 2020 thru September 4, 2020 weather permitting.  In case of inclement weather, the Friday night Shabbat service will be held indoors.  Our Saturday Shabbat service and Tuesday afternoon Minyon service will be held in the Sanctuary.

When Torat Yisrael reopens, every congregant will be required to wear a face mask during the entire time that one is in the building or attending services, including our outdoor services.  Each person must bring his/her own kippa and tallit to services.   Torat Yisrael will not be providing any kippot and tallitot until the old normal returns.  Six feet of social distancing will be maintained for seating provided that there is no singing.  The Governor’s directives require a distance of 14 feet between each congregant family if there will be singing.   All indoor services will be held in the Sanctuary.   The library, chapel, teen lounge and school wing will be closed.   The younger children will have no toys or place to play until this crisis is over.  When the building is open for services, all the other rooms in the building except for restrooms will be locked and unavailable.   The outdoor playground is closed until further notice.  To maintain social distancing, there will be no shaking of hands or hugging.

We have purchased a scanning thermometer.  Everyone entering the building will be subject to having their body temperature taken.  We will be taking random temperatures of congregants entering the building and doing wellness screenings.    We have posted signs inside the building which state that: “Face Coverings must be worn at all times; Wash and sanitize your hands regularly; Maintain a safe distance of 6 feet; If you do not feel well, please Do NOT attend or if you have a compromised immune system, please do not attend.”

Anyone who feels sick should not attend services.  If you have a temperature, feel sick or have any symptoms related to COVID, please stay home and consult your medical care provider.   Besides being concerned about security, we will be counting the number of people entering the building to make sure we are in compliance with our occupancy limitation and taking attendance so that we have a record of social contacts in the event someone comes down with the virus after attending a service.

Everyone entering the building must wear a face mask at all times even while seated during services.   Unfortunately, during this period, we will not be having Kiddush or serving any congregational dinners.

We will be cleaning and sanitizing the building after each service.  The format of our religious services will be revised. The Torah service, Aliyahs, ark openings and service participation are being revised from our past practice.  We will also continue Zooming all our religious services after the building reopens for those who are reluctant to be with a group during this health crisis.

We will reopen Torat Yisrael for in-person religious services on July 10, 2020 in a safe and prudent manner.   The health and safety of our congregants is of the utmost importance. All changes that will be implemented will be made to protect everyone’s health in the most respectful and proper method.
